Meghan Ferland Family Benefit Spaghetti Suppah - 2011

Picture
September 1 - Winthrop
For nearly three hours, between 450 and 500 people filed into St Francis Parish Hall to support the 'Megan Ferland Family Benefit Spaghetti Suppah' hosted by the Winthrop Area Rotary
Club.

In May 2011, Megan Ferland graduated from UMF.  Shortly after, Megan suffered a fever, headache and unusual confusion and was taken to the hospital.  Soon after, Megan’s symptoms included seizures and she was life-flighted to Boston.  Within a few hours of arriving at Mass General Hospital, Paul and Sherry Ferland learned that their daughter was showing symptoms of a very rare disorder, Paraneoplastic Syndrome - which has claimed less than 500 previously recorded cases worldwide.  Doctor’s are now optimistic about Megan’s recovery; however, it will be a lengthy one and will continue now that she has returned home.

Folks came from near and far, young and old, to enjoy the time together. There was a Cake and Pie auction as well as goods raffle to help increase the total. All told, the funds raised to September 1, thankfully, near $10,000 and will go toward helping the family.

Others wishing to contribute may send checks to the
